Harriet's Jacket KAL

Today I'm announcing a Knit Along for Harriet's Jacket, beginning on August 1. This should give interested knitters time to gather their materials, read the pattern, etc. before the action begins. I'll be using Briar Rose Fibers Sonoma, and Chris, the dyer, will be sending out information about the KAL in her newsletter. I ran into her at Rhinebeck last October and fell in love with her yarns right away.

You can use the same yarn or other yarn of your choosing. The KAL will work this way: I'll post photos and instructions for Harriet's Jacket as I knit (yet another) one for myself. There'll be lots of photos and details as I go. We'll use the comments section of this blog for questions, answers, remarks, etc. I hope followers will post photos of their work-in-progress to the projects section of Ravelry. Here's some inspiration.

Version in Elann's Peruvian Highland Chunky in garnet.

Sonoma in # 12370
Peace Fleece in Siberian Midnight.
Don't forget to think about buttons--they're so important to the final look! Briar Rose Fibers has some lovely ones.
P.S. For Canadian readers: Briar Rose will ship to Canada, but you will need to write or call to make arrangements; the online form won't accept international orders.

  1. I have a sweater amount of Chuckanut Bay Perendale in my stash that I'll swatch to see if it might work. Love the design, and would appreciate the support of a KAL :)

  2. Looking forward to having you join me. From the messages I've been getting on Ravelry, it looks as though there will be a good-sized crowd of Harriet knitters along for the ride. I plan on posting as I knit, but I'll keep checking the comments section of the blog throughout August and Sept to answer any questions. Can't wait!

  3. Purchased yarn yesterday so step one is done. Wondering - are you posting pictures etc of your progress on this blog or is there somewhere on Ravelry that I should be trying to find? I am on Ravelry, however, I have to admit I'm not too familiar with all the possibilities it offers.

    1. I'm going to post photos and instructions here on this blog, and you can ask questions and make comments here too. You may also post your own photos of the work-in-progress on Ravelry in the "projects" section of your notebook, which will allow them to be viewed by others when they click onto "Harriet's Jacket/projects". Hope that clarifies things.

  4. I followed your Harriet's jacket progress with interest and was deliberating on whether to knit one for myself, not having had much success with larger items (ie mostly fit). Now that you've set up a KAL though, that was enough to get me to bite the bullet. Just bought the yarn and the pattern, looking forward to starting! Off to find your group on Ravelry too...

  5. Cybele,
At this point, I don't actually have my very own Ravelry group, but if you post photos on your own project page, they will automatically show up under "projects" when you go to mine and click on "Harriet's Jacket/projects".

  6. Beautiful Jacket and am considering the KAL! Can you tell me what yarn you used on the first pic in Ravelry...the one in vine/leaves? Love the tweediness and color!
